4. Hypothesis and Methods

The study’s framework supposes the interview of experts on issues related to the different aspects of the impact

of the intellectual capital of a company on its competitiveness. The experts will be chosen from students of MBA

programs, the President’s Management Training Program at St. Petersburg State University and St. Petersburg

State University of Economics. Students of these programs will be offered series of statements related to the assess-

ment of the impact of intellectual capital on the competitiveness of the company. Experts will be offered range of

responses from 1 to 7. Estimated base of analysis is about 200 observations.

First testable hypothesis is the assertion that intellectual capital is a key factor affecting the competitiveness of

companies, not only in cases where the scope of the company is historically associated with new IT technologies

or\and implementation of innovative ideas, but also in cases where the company is not formally linked to innova-

tions.

We expect to analyze the data as a whole pool, and splitting the experts’ responses on the basis of “innovative”\”not

innovative” companies and compare results. Analysis is supposed to be carried by method of principal compo-

nents via SPSS.

We’ll test the hypothesis that in the traditionally “innovative companies” combination of factors influencing com-

petitiveness, is significantly different from a combination of factors in “ordinary companies.”
